5 Quick Organization Tips that Take 15 Minutes or Less

On any given morning you’ve got lots to do between the time you wake up and the time you leave your home. Figuring out what you’ll wear is just one of them. If you’re short on closet space or it’s not organized as well as it could be, finding the perfect outfit will take that much longer, and it might result in a mess you’ll have to clean up later in the day.

To make your mornings a little less stressful, there are some relatively inexpensive closet hacks you can do right now that’ll make it easier to keep everything organized.

Get Rid of Old Stuff

We can’t stress this enough—if you get rid of clothes you no longer wear you’ll have a much easier time finding a fresh outfit for your day. Spend 15 minutes each day for five days (or tackle this project on the weekend) and remove clothes you never wear, are of lower quality than what you buy now, have holes that you know you’ll never fix or stains that have set. Donate what’s still good to wear and pitch the rest.

Prevent Clothes from Sliding Off the Hangers

Your morning scramble involves looking for just-the-right top to wear…but sometimes that blouse is nowhere to be found because it’s slid off the hanger and is in a heap on the floor. You might not have the time or resources to invest in velvet hangers that keep clothes in place, but there is a quick fix. Simply add rubber bands to the ends of your hangers to prevent tops from sliding around. You’ll have fewer tops and dresses to rehang each day.

Add Hooks Wherever Possible

Hooks are underutilized as a closet accessory. They’re great for hanging handbags or work bags, accessories like scarves or even necklaces. Your custom closet installer can easily add large hooks to the back of your door or to the wall right near your closet. And if you have a deep reach-in closet or a small walk-in closet, consider adding hooks inside on the walls, too. This will keep bags and accessories from taking up hanging storage space and make it easier to find what you need in the morning.

Get Shoes Off the Floor

If your shoes, accessories or even clothes are on the floor it’s automatically adding time to your morning. Even if your shoes are lined up neatly one day, they’ll likely be a mess by the end of the week. Instead, store flats and sandals in cubbies and line heels and short boots on shelves.

Add a Custom Closet

Okay, this tip does take more than 15 minutes, but it could make your morning routines (and any other time that involves using your closet) a whole lot easier and less stressful. A custom walk-in or reach-in closet creates a special spot just for everything, from sandals and boots to handbags, sweaters and dresses.
