Home Organization Checklist for any Room in the House
Time flies! Every couple of months, it’s a good idea to clear out clutter that can build up and get away from us. But when it comes to organizing your space, no matter how big or small, it can be hard to find a starting point and a rhythm.
From cluttered kitchens to chaotic closets, finding your bearings in the process can be overwhelming! That’s why we created an organizational checklist that can work in virtually any space in your home or office.
Envision Your Organized Space
The first step in any home organization project is to consider what you want to optimize in your space. Why are you organizing? Do you want to make laundry time easier by eliminating unnecessary steps? Do you want to focus on creating less food waste in your pantry? Do you want to find your favorite clothing items with ease?
Taking the time to visualize your routines after the organization process is complete can help you reorganize your space in a way that’s not only efficient but also fitting for your unique lifestyle.
Take Inventory
It’s always a good idea to make note of what you already have, whether you’re working in the kitchen, laundry room, or closet! This process can be split into two categories: keep or remove. Find items you want to hold onto and put them together and do the same thing with items you’re ready to toss, donate or sell.
Once you have only the items you’re keeping, your space will be easier to organize when all unwanted or unused items are out of the way.
Group Like Items Together
When it comes to storing your things, a good rule of thumb is to keep similar items together. Let’s take your kitchen cabinets, for instance. Canned foods can be stored together on risers so you can easily see your entire inventory, ensuring no items get lost to the clutter.
Working on your laundry room? Store detergents and softeners side by side so you don’t have to add extra steps when doing a load of laundry. And don’t forget about your closets! Off-season clothing items can be grouped and stored away, while your favorite summer sundresses can hang together on display.
Find What Works for You
Now for the fun stuff! There are so many unique and versatile ways to store items in your home to increase efficiency. So many, in fact, that we’ve been helping our customers for over three decades!
Take some time to consider what you reach for most frequently, and what grievances you would like to fix about whatever area of the home or office you’re working in! For instance, if you have a big shoe collection you reach for frequently, but you hate bending down to sort through your shoes, try a door shoe organizer or install slanted shelves higher up in your closet space. As Canadian Professional Organizer Lynda Peterson once said, “With organization comes empowerment.”
It’s worth your time!
This process can seem overwhelming, but taking your time and envisioning your future with organization around every corner is worth your time. When it comes to home organization, every solution should be crafted to fit your lifestyle, but these three steps can help anyone master everyday disarray! Think about your day-to-day routines and gather some insight on what organizational solutions would help streamline your daily processes.
